Jesus, however, said that whatever we do to the least of his brothers and sisters we do to him. If we wash our hands of the people who present us with problems or situations which we do not want to face, or feel we cannot face, it is now us who wash our hands of Jesus.
The artist has included some images to prompt us to think of people or situations which present us with a challenge. Do we face it, or wash our hands, remembering that Jesus is in that situation somewhere?
The images could be added to, but include HIV and Aids, drug abuse, disaffected youth, refugees, torture and enslavement and homelessness.
The painting is entitled Reproaches. It calls to mind the Reproaches in the Good Friday liturgy and the book of Lamentations 1:12 - All you who pass by, look and see. Is any sorrow like unto my sorrow? My people, what have I done to you? How have I offended you? Answer me.
